The Yarn Newsletter: April 2026

9 April 2026

Palya,

Warm greetings from Voyages Tourism Australia and welcome to "The Yarn."

Please see below an update on what's new at Voyages, Ayers Rock Resort, and Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre.

Voyages Joins Journey Beyond

Voyages has officially joined the Journey Beyond family, becoming a part of a collective of leading tourism and travel brands across Australia and New Zealand.

For our trade partners, it's business as usual. Ayers Rock Resort and Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre continue to operate as they always have, with the same teams, booking processes, and commitment to supporting you and your clients.

This transition follows extensive consultation with Anangu at Uluru and Kuku Yalanji community at Mossman Gorge, with a continued focus on future community ownership, cultural integrity, and Indigenous employment pathways through the National Indigenous Training Academy (NITA).

Over time, you will see the business name transition to Voyages Tourism Australia.

Field of Light Celebrates 10 Years

In 2026, Australia's iconic Field of Light at Uluru celebrates an extraordinary 10-year milestone.

Created by renowned international artist Bruce Munro, the installation was originally intended to be temporary when it opened in 2016. Ten years on, it has become one of Australia's most loved and photographed experiences, with more than 750,000 guests having visited.

Inspired by desert wildflowers blooming after rain, over 50,000 solar-powered stems illuminate the desert landscape on Anangu Country, with the installation now shining brighter than ever following a major refurbishment in late 2024.

To mark this milestone, Ayers Rock Resort hosted a series of special events, including exclusive guest opportunities to hear from Bruce Munro, complimentary Q&A sessions, and refreshed menus across Field of Light experiences showcasing native ingredients.

A special public art installation launched in Melbourne has also brought Field of Light to an urban audience through a collaboration between Anangu and Wurundjeri artists, celebrating this much-loved experience beyond the Red Centre.

Mossman Gorge Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk

This year, Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre proudly celebrates 40 years of the Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk.

Led by Kuku Yalanji guides, the Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk offers guests a deep and authentic connection to one of the world's oldest living cultures, sharing traditional stories, bush foods, and ancient practices.

This milestone recognises four decades of cultural storytelling, education, and connection to Country, continuing to inspire visitors from around the world.

NITA Uniform Artwork & Parrtjima Feature

The National Indigenous Training Academy (NITA) continues to celebrate creativity and culture, with trainees wearing a newly designed uniform proudly featuring an artwork created by five NITA trainees.

The artwork represents each artist's personal journey: their geographical journey to Uluru and to NITA, and their metaphorical journey of growth, confidence and opportunity as young Anangu pursuing training and employment pathways.

In an exciting milestone, the original artwork has also been selected to feature at Alice Springs' Parrtjima – A Festival of Light this April, showcasing the talent and storytelling of NITA on a national stage.
